"What's up F@*kers!?" sweetly bellowed Anya Marina after her first song during her SXSW showcase.The breathy songstress enticed the thick crowd during her whole set with her warm and playful sense of humor. Anya's latest album, Slow & Steady Seduction: Phase II, was produced by Austin's Brit Daniels of Spoon. The early crowd never missed him as they sang along to many of Marina's tunes. Dressed in a silver sequence top and black jacket and boots, Marina kicked her performance into hot high gear with a cover of "Whatever You Like." Slipping into a rock-Hip Hop coma, Marina hiked her boots on floor monitors and hit her knees as she flung her hair into a flowing frenzy.
Brilliant filmmaker and artist Michel Gondry gave an eloquent and humorous keynote talk at the Austin Convention Center at this year's SXSW. Gondry's past work include The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, was here with his latest project, Thorne in the Heart. Using film and video, Gondry told the large audience that he and his crew became part of the film as his subject, his blind Aunt, kept needing to be hear Gondry. Also highlighted Gondry's online work where he takes a photo the user sends and drams on it for $20! He did a 1000 of these and created a book for it. A highlight during the talk is when audience member Tyler Murray showed Gondry his photo that the director drew upon.

Film- The Taqwacores
The film was originally based on the popular book of the same title by Michael Muhammad Knight. About Muslim misfits who played punk rock, lived together in a run downed house while going to school or not, the film shows Muslims as everyday people who with complex issues that American youth faces every day. Issues of identity, religion, love and discrimination all came together in this great film. A wonderful film for SX to screen of groundbreaking images smashing stereotypes that America has sadly become use to.
"Represent, represent Chile" proclaimed rapper delight Anita Tijoux during her encore at Maggie Mae's. Tijoux was on a performer's high as positive press hailed her performance just days before at the Flamingo Cantina. Going into "1977," early in her set, Tijoux was joined by several special guest including Detroit's Invisible. After stating that her Chilean people are strong and moving forward after the recent earthquakes, she took the Orsishas Cuban anthem "Represent, Represent" and fused her Chilean will into the words and high energy performance. With a pocket of Chilenos in the house [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], all Latinos, mainly Mexicanos [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], fill the room and shout back in solidarity. Really who wouldn't obey Tijoux?

Film and Music reigned supreme during SXSW 2010. Robert Rodriguez screened scenes of his new action flick, Predators [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to a badges only crowd of less than 200. Indie rockers Broken Bells performed in a parking structure, many good times. Here's a quick warp up of film and music highlights from Austin, Texas.
